The White House stated on Thursday that the recent deployment of European troops in Greenland does not alter the US administration’s goal of purchasing the Arctic island from Denmark.
The statement clarifies Washington’s continued interest in the territory, a topic previously raised by US President Donald Trump.
During a press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the matter directly when questioned about the deployment. “I don’t think troops in Europe impact the president’s decision-making process, nor does it impact his goal of the acquisition of Greenland at all,” Leavitt said.
This comment reaffirms that the strategic objective of the United States concerning Greenland remains a priority for the current administration, irrespective of military activities by European nations in the region.
