Schools in the Ukrainian capital will close until February, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on Friday. The decision was made in response to “difficult conditions” created by Russian attacks targeting the energy sector during a period of sub-zero temperatures.
“Starting January 19, schools in the capital city will be closed for break until February 1,” Klitschko stated via Telegram.
In a related measure to conserve power, Kyiv’s municipal authorities also confirmed that the city’s street lighting would be reduced to one-fifth of its normal capacity.
