Kuwait has intensified its response to recent Iranian attacks by formally protesting the targeting of the tanker Keivan in the Strait of Hormuz and holding Tehran fully responsible for repeated attacks on Kuwaiti territory and critical infrastructure, while warning of their implications for regional security.

Kuwait Delivers Formal Protest to Iranian Ambassador

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Totonji and handed him a formal protest note over the reported attack on the tanker Keivan while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Al-Mashaan described the incident as part of what Kuwait called an ongoing pattern of Iranian aggression against the country, stressing that the attack violated Kuwait’s sovereignty, threatened international maritime navigation, and breached international law, the UN Charter, and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).

Kuwait demanded an immediate halt to the attacks and reaffirmed its right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and national interests.

Cabinet Holds Iran Fully Responsible

In a separate statement, the Kuwaiti Cabinet condemned what it described as repeated Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting vital facilities, including electricity and water infrastructure, oil installations, and other strategic sites.

The Cabinet said Iran bears full legal and moral responsibility for the attacks and warned that continued strikes pose a serious threat to civilian safety, regional stability, and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions.

Support for Gulf Security and Maritime Navigation

The Cabinet also condemned attacks against Qatar, Bahrain, and Jordan, reaffirming Kuwait’s solidarity with fellow Gulf and regional partners.

Additionally, it denounced threats made by Yemen’s Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia and international shipping, emphasizing that the security of Saudi Arabia is inseparable from Kuwait’s security and that safeguarding maritime routes remains essential for regional and global stability.

Conclusion:

Kuwait has strengthened both its diplomatic and political response to Iran through a formal protest and an official Cabinet position holding Tehran accountable for recent attacks, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting national sovereignty, supporting regional partners, and preserving the security of international maritime navigation.
