The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi missile interception target, a ballistic missile fired toward the southern Saudi city of Khamis Mushait, and also intercepted and destroyed two drones launched toward the Riyadh region.

Coalition spokesman Lt. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki said Saudi forces are closely tracking the ongoing missile and drone threats directed at the kingdom, as cross-border attacks linked to the Yemen conflict continue.

Ballistic Missile Intercepted Toward Khamis Mushait

Al-Maliki said Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by the Houthis toward Khamis Mushait, adding that the operation was successful and no casualties or damage were reported in the statement.

He said the development follows earlier coalition announcements involving similar missile threats targeting the same city, showing that attempts to strike inside Saudi territory are continuing.

Two Drones Shot Down Near Riyadh

Al-Maliki also said Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed two drones launched by the Houthis toward the Riyadh region.

He added that coalition forces are “monitoring and tracking a missile threat and drones directed at the kingdom,” underscoring the continued state of alert along the southern border and around the capital.

Ongoing Cross-Border Escalation

The announcements come amid continuing tensions between the coalition and the Houthis, with repeated missile and drone attacks targeting locations inside Saudi Arabia.

Riyadh says its air defenses respond regularly to these threats, while the Yemen war remains one of the region’s key sources of instability.

Khamis Mushait and Riyadh Remain in the Threat Zone

Khamis Mushait and Riyadh have both faced repeated aerial threats over recent years, prompting Saudi Arabia to strengthen its air defense systems and maintain high alert around strategic cities and facilities.

The latest incident shows that aerial threats remain part of the regional security picture despite repeated diplomatic efforts to reduce escalation in Yemen and the wider region.

Conclusion:

The coalition’s announcement of a Houthi missile interception and the downing of two drones shows that cross-border aerial threats remain active, with Riyadh saying it continues to monitor and respond through its air defense systems. From Khamis Mushait to Riyadh, the escalation remains tied to the wider Yemen conflict and its regional fallout.
