Iraq’s Interior Ministry and Baghdad Operations Command announced a series of security operations across the capital that led to the arrest of wanted suspects and residency violators in Baghdad, as part of what officials described as efforts to strengthen security and pursue those breaking the law.
The operations were carried out as preventive searches in several neighborhoods and included home inspections, the seizure of unlicensed weapons and illegal items, and follow-up on immigration and residency violations in both the Karkh and Rusafa sides of Baghdad.
Interior Ministry Says 4 Wanted Men and 40 Violators Were Arrested
Interior Ministry spokesman Col. Mohammed Ali Al-Husson told the Iraqi News Agency that Baghdad Rusafa Police Command and supporting units carried out a broad preventive security campaign in Al-Fadhl district, following instructions from senior ministry official Hussein Al-Awadi.
He said the operation was part of broader security measures aimed at boosting stability, searching residential homes, seizing anything that violates the law, arresting wanted suspects and residency violators, and removing encroachments.
Unlicensed Weapons Seized, Suspects Handed Over
Al-Husson said the campaign resulted in the arrest of four suspects wanted under various legal provisions, as well as 40 people who violated residency conditions.
He added that those arrested were placed in detention to allow legal procedures to be completed under existing laws and regulations, while weapons and other unlicensed items were seized during the operation.
Baghdad Operations Command Reports Wider 24-Hour Sweep
In a separate statement, Baghdad Operations Command said it arrested several suspects, including three wanted in cases involving human trafficking, theft, and drugs, and detained 40 foreign nationals who violated residency and nationality regulations over the past 24 hours.
The command said the operations were aimed at reinforcing security and stability and pursuing criminals and organized crime networks, with support from security agencies and intelligence units.
Operations Covered Multiple Districts
According to the statement, the raids were carried out in Sadr City, Al-Shaab, Majid Al-Nasir, Al-Rashidiya, Al-Hamdaniya, Al-Yusufiyah, Baghdad checkpoint areas, Shakha 7, and Al-Jadriya, across both the Karkh and Rusafa sides.
It added that security forces also seized weapons, ammunition, and other unlicensed materials before transferring the suspects and confiscated items to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
