Qalibaf Says US Voters Sent a “No to War” Message After Republican Losses

Iranian chief negotiator and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said on Wednesday that the US vote amounted to a “no to war” message after Democrats defeated Republicans in the midterm elections.

In a post on X monitored by the Iraqi News Agency, Qalibaf said Americans had made their position clear “whether out of conviction or because of living costs,” adding: “The Americans said no to war, and we support that message.”

Qalibaf Links Election Result to Antiwar Sentiment

Qalibaf said the election result reflected a broader rejection of war, arguing that the outcome carried political meaning beyond the Republican Party’s loss of seats.

His remarks came as the fallout from the war with Iran continued to shape the US political debate, with growing discussion over its cost and impact on voters.

Trump Says Iran War Hurt Republicans

Separately, US President Donald Trump acknowledged that the war with Iran was one of the factors behind the Republican Party’s weaker performance and its loss of several seats in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump made the remarks during a phone interview on Tuesday night when asked whether the war with Iran had contributed to the Republicans’ poor election performance. “Iran was part of that,” he said.

Trump Stands by His Decision

According to the newspaper, Trump said that despite acknowledging the war’s effect on the results, he did not regret launching it earlier this year.

The war with Iran has now lasted more than eight months and has fed into higher energy prices, while Republican figures and administration officials have blamed the conflict in part for the party’s election losses.

Democrats Regain Control of the Senate

In a separate development, the Associated Press said Democrats had regained control of the US Senate after making gains in several states, while control of the House of Representatives remained undecided as vote counting continued.

The shift points to an early change in the balance of power in Congress, though final results could still confirm or alter the current picture.

Conclusion:

While Qalibaf reads the US vote as a rejection of war, the American political debate continues to focus on the impact of the Iran war on the election outcome, linking foreign policy directly to domestic political losses.
