Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Thursday that what America is doing now in Hormuz is the biggest mistake, in his latest criticism of US moves linked to the Strait of Hormuz and the pressure campaign against Tehran.

In an English-language post addressed to US officials, Araghchi said the United States has “always miscalculated because of intelligence shortcomings,” adding that what is happening in Hormuz now amounts to the biggest mistake, in his view.

Araghchi warns against misleading intelligence

The Iranian foreign minister said misleading intelligence is worse than fake news, urging US officials to be cautious in how they handle the Iran file.

He added that the war on Iran was an example of what he described as American miscalculations, and said Tehran sees current moves in the Strait of Hormuz as a dangerous escalation.

Tehran condemns Israeli statements and backs Palestine and Golan claims

In a separate statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the “permanent belonging” of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights to Israel and his rejection of an independent Palestinian state.

The ministry said Palestinian land belongs to the Palestinian people and that what it called the “racist fantasies” of the Zionist entity cannot change that reality.

It also stressed that the Golan Heights are part of Syrian territory and that colonial ambitions cannot alter the legal and historical facts.

Rejection of Colombia’s move and UN responsibility

The ministry said Colombia’s decision to affirm Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Golan is rejected and constitutes a violation of international law, arguing that the Colombian position carries international responsibility.

It also called on the UN Security Council to fulfil its responsibilities in stopping Israeli occupation and attacks on Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and the rest of the region.

US war secretary says blockade on Iran will continue

On the other side, US War Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington would continue its blockade on Iran “for as long as it takes,” signaling continued US pressure on Tehran.

The remarks came as media reports described new US military movements in the Middle East, including the deployment of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington to the region to replace USS Abraham Lincoln.

Regular rotation of US naval assets

The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials, that the move is part of a strategic plan for the regular rotation of American naval assets in the region amid rising tensions over maritime security and the dispute with Iran.

Conclusion:

Araghchi’s statement that what America is doing now in Hormuz is the biggest mistake underscores the ongoing standoff between Tehran and Washington over the Strait of Hormuz and the naval pressure campaign. With the US also reinforcing its military posture in the region, the situation remains highly sensitive for energy and security.
