The Syrian army accused Kurdish forces on Tuesday of withdrawing from the Al-Hol camp, a northeastern facility holding thousands of family members of Islamic State fighters.
In a statement, the Syrian military alleged that Kurdish forces had abandoned their positions at the camp. However, Kurdish authorities immediately denied the accusation, stating their forces remain in control and reported that clashes were occurring on the outskirts of the camp.
Located in Syria’s Kurdish-controlled northeast, the Al-Hol camp is the largest of its kind, housing a total of 27,000 people. The population includes 15,000 Syrians and approximately 6,300 foreign women and children from 42 different countries. The status of the camp and its residents remains a point of significant regional concern.
