Israel conducted renewed airstrikes Monday on Beirut’s southern suburbs and southern Lebanon following fresh evacuation warnings for multiple residential areas, while the Israeli military announced bombing “terrorist targets” belonging to Hezbollah. The strikes came following intense bombardment Sunday that killed civilians in multiple locations. In response to Israeli escalation, Hezbollah announced targeting the Israeli military base “Givat Olga” with a precision missile and swarms of suicide drones.

Continuing escalation reflects transformation toward broader regional conflict, with destruction and displacement imposing massive humanitarian costs on Lebanon. Death toll has reached approximately 1,500 people, while over one million Lebanese have been displaced since war began over a month ago.

Renewed Strikes on Southern Suburbs and Evacuation Warnings

Israeli airstrikes targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs Monday following fresh evacuation orders for residents in multiple neighborhood sectors. Live Al Jazeera coverage showed smoke billowing following strikes in the Bir al-Abed area of the southern suburbs, considered a primary Hezbollah stronghold.

The Israeli military stated in an official statement that it was bombing “terrorist targets of Hezbollah in Beirut,” without specifying exact target characteristics.

Civilian Reality and Forced Evacuations

Fresh evacuation warnings preceded strike execution as Israeli forces ordered area residents to leave, with the largest population exodus occurring amid continuous strikes and warnings since war began between Hezbollah and Israel over a month ago.

An AFP correspondent in the area observed numerous shops reopening doors, including a bakery, pharmacy, and barbershop, while a gas station appeared completely destroyed. These images reflect daily life disruption and economic collapse under war’s weight.

Targeting Hezbollah Economic Infrastructure

An Israeli military spokeswoman announced Sunday bombing of two fuel stations belonging to Al-Amanah Company, describing them as “under Hezbollah control and serving as central economic infrastructure supporting terrorist activities.”

The spokeswoman reported this represents 15 total stations targeted since war began. This reflects broadened Israeli strategy extending beyond military installations to encompass economic and civilian infrastructure.

Timeline of Lebanon War Outbreak

The Middle East conflict reached Lebanon March 2 when the Iran-backed group launched rockets against Israel in response to assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in opening days of American-Israeli attack. Israel responded with extensive bombing campaign on Lebanon and military ground incursion into southern territory.

An AFP correspondent observed in multiple neighborhood sectors new posters of Supreme Leader Khamenei bearing “Nation’s Martyr” inscription, reflecting intense polarization and popular support for Hezbollah.

Death Toll and Destruction in Southern Lebanon

The Israeli military continued airstrikes Monday on southern and eastern Lebanon, resulting in deaths according to Lebanese National News Agency, particularly in Burj Rahhal village in Tyre district.

An AFP cameraman at the location observed twisted metal structures and personal belongings, including blankets and mattresses, scattered among completely destroyed building rubble.

Local-Level Destruction and Eyewitness Accounts

Burj Rahhal municipal president Daoud Ezzeddin stated: “We have over 15 residential units uninhabitable and residents wanting to return unfortunately cannot inhabit them.”

This testimony reflects shattered reality for local populations who lost homes and possessions.

Targeting Medical and Emergency Personnel

Lebanese Health Ministry reported four deaths from Israeli airstrike on vehicle in Kafr Rumman village near Nabatiyeh city.

The ministry also announced death of paramedic from Al-Resalah Association affiliated with Amal movement (Hezbollah ally) in Sidikeen village in Tyre “while performing rescue operations” in Israeli airstrike “targeting ambulance teams.”

Paramedics and Healthcare Workers Casualties

Lebanon has recorded 57 paramedics killed by Israeli fire since war began. The ministry further noted two additional paramedics from Islamic Health Authority affiliated with Hezbollah killed Sunday in Israeli airstrike.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned on platform “X” that attacks targeting healthcare facilities and workers “cannot become routine.”

Hezbollah Retaliation and Counter-Operations

Hezbollah announced Monday targeting Israeli military base “Givat Olga” “belonging to the northern command” of Israeli military over 70 kilometers from border “with precision missile and precision suicide drone swarms.”

This attack reflects Hezbollah capacity for immediate and damaging military retaliation against Israeli operations, targeting deep military installations within Israeli territory.

Ain Saadeh Incident and Civilian Casualties

The Israeli military stated Sunday it attacked a “terrorist target” in Ain Saadeh area east of Beirut, announcing “the incident is under review” following Lebanese civilian deaths “uninvolved in fighting,” accusing Hezbollah of “positioning within civilian populations.”

Analysis and Unintended Casualties

The strike resulted in three deaths including two women, according to Lebanese Health Ministry. Among the deceased was an official in Lebanese Forces Party (Hezbollah opponent) and his wife. Residents reported they inhabited apartment beneath targeted unit.

Lebanese Forces Party leader Samir Geagea stated Monday that Israeli strike targeted “Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps element,” clarifying “the ceiling collapsed on house of our colleague Pierre Maawad, killing him, his wife, and lady visiting them.”

Military Investigations and Conflicting Details

The Lebanese military stated initial investigation showed “no new residents in building.” The statement continued: “While one person was observed leaving building by motorcycle immediately after attack, investigation continues to determine identity and remaining details.”

These details reflect complexity of target identification and distinguishing civilians from military in urban environments.

New Evacuation Orders and Mass Evacuations

The Israeli military issued Monday new evacuation warning requiring evacuation of over 40 southern Lebanese villages. These broad evacuation orders come within context of organized military campaign to displace population from conflict zones.

Al-Masnaa Crossing and Economic Crisis

The Al-Masnaa border crossing with Syria remains closed following Israeli threat Saturday to bomb it.

General Director of Land and Maritime Transport Ahmad Tamer told AFP the crossing remained closed “until we receive guarantees it won’t be bombed,” noting some cargo being transported by sea from Tripoli port (north) to Turkey.

Al-Masnaa crossing represents main Lebanon-Syria passage, making it vital commercial route for both countries and Lebanon’s primary land gateway to remaining region.

Humanitarian Toll and Continuing Displacement

Since war began, Lebanese authorities have counted approximately 1,500 deaths and over one million Lebanese displaced. These staggering figures reflect magnitude of humanitarian crisis resulting from conflict.

Israeli military chief of staff Eyal Zamir promised Sunday from southern Lebanon to intensify operations against Hezbollah, indicating continued escalation in coming period.

Impact on Social and Economic Structure

Mass displacement and widespread destruction lead to loss of social and economic stability. Millions of Lebanese live in camps and temporary shelters, far from homes and livelihoods.

Conclusion:

Monday developments reflect continuation of expanded regional conflict in Lebanon, where ongoing bombing and destruction impose enormous humanitarian burdens on Lebanese society. Conversely, Hezbollah demonstrates capacity for immediate and damaging military retaliation against Israeli operations. Painful humanitarian toll—over 1,500 dead and over one million displaced—reflects genuine humanitarian catastrophe. With continued evacuation warnings, mass displacement, and destruction, Lebanon war appears set to continue absent near-term solution.
