Iraq’s President Nizar Amiidi stressed today the critical importance of supporting farmers and agricultural workers as pillars of economic development and national production. The president emphasized the urgent need to settle accumulated financial claims and address the legitimate demands of this essential sector.

The presidential statement comes amid mounting pressure from farmers across Iraqi provinces demanding the government fulfill long-standing commitments to pay outstanding wages and provide adequate support.

President declares agricultural sector a national priority

The Presidential Media Office issued a formal statement confirming that “President Nizar Amiidi stressed the necessity of supporting farmers and agricultural workers as pillars of economic development, given their vital role in stimulating local production and strengthening the national economy.”

Amiidi emphasized that “supporting the agricultural sector represents a national priority,” acknowledging the continuous efforts exerted by farmers throughout the country.

Settling financial claims and addressing legitimate demands

The president called for “responding to the demands of this sector, particularly regarding their financial entitlements, ensuring fair treatment and meeting their legitimate needs.”

Amiidi highlighted farmers’ direct contributions to:

Stimulating local and national production
Strengthening productive capacity of the national economy
Serving the nation and economic interests
Achieving food self-sufficiency and security

Parliament speaker rejects dispersal of peaceful farmer gatherings

Parliament Speaker Hiba al-Haboushi affirmed today the urgent need to respond to farmers’ demands for payment of outstanding financial dues.

In an official statement, al-Haboushi expressed “strong rejection of what farmers faced today when security forces dispersed their peaceful gatherings.”

He emphasized that “the right to peaceful protest and expression of legitimate demands is a fundamental right that must be respected and protected.”

Parliamentary decision and government recommendations

Parliament Speaker al-Haboushi referenced the fact that “Parliament had issued Parliamentary Decision No. 28, which contains recommendations directed to the Council of Ministers aimed at ensuring fair treatment of this sector and meeting its legitimate needs.”

Al-Haboushi called on the government to:

Implement necessary measures to execute the parliamentary decision
Address the farmers’ file in a manner that achieves justice
Fully preserve the rights of all farmers and agricultural workers
Settle all accumulated and overdue financial claims

Importance of farmer support to national economy

The official emphasis on supporting farmers and agricultural workers reflects the Iraqi government’s broader efforts toward sustainable economic development and national food self-sufficiency.

The agricultural sector holds strategic importance for Iraq given its diverse agricultural resources, fertile lands, and capacity to produce multiple crops supporting regional food security.

Challenges facing Iraqi farmers

Iraqi farmers and agricultural workers face multiple significant challenges including:

Government delays in settling financial dues
Lack of technical and financial support resources
Climate pressures and drought conditions
Shortage of modern agricultural equipment and machinery

Required steps to achieve justice and stability

Official statements indicated the need for swift government action to address the farmers’ file with seriousness and commitment.

This requires immediate implementation of recommendations in Parliamentary Decision No. 28 and settlement of all accumulated dues to ensure agricultural sector stability and stimulate domestic production.

Conclusion:

Statements from Iraq’s President and Parliament Speaker reflect official commitment from state leadership to support farmers and ensure fair treatment. This commitment represents an important step toward achieving comprehensive economic development and strengthening national food security for Iraq.
