Iraq Jordan Egypt have reaffirmed the importance of activating their trilateral cooperation mechanism through specialized technical committees, while also expanding joint coordination in economic, investment, industrial and energy sectors.

The talks took place during a trilateral meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, ahead of the Arab ministerial meeting on القدس (Jerusalem).

Trilateral cooperation mechanism activated

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein took part in the trilateral mechanism meeting alongside Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.

The ministers agreed to activate the mechanism through technical committees and to hold regular meetings at different levels to follow up on joint projects.

Main areas of cooperation

The talks focused on:

– Economy and investment

– Industry

– Energy

– Joint projects between the three countries

Energy and electricity interconnection at the center of talks

The ministers discussed energy cooperation, including oil projects and electricity interconnection, and ways to expand their partnership to strengthen energy security among the three countries.

The statement said this could help achieve greater economic integration and open broader practical cooperation.

Regional developments and the Strait of Hormuz

The meeting also covered regional developments, especially the situation related to the Strait of Hormuz.

The ministers welcomed efforts aimed at reopening the strait as soon as possible, given its importance for regional stability and safe maritime navigation.

Call for de-escalation

The ministers stressed the need to:

– End military operations

– Reduce escalation

– Rely on dialogue

– Use diplomacy to address crises

Iraq-Egypt talks on the Aqaba oil pipeline

In a separate meeting, Fuad Hussein discussed with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty the project to extend an oil pipeline from Iraq to the port of Aqaba and then to the Red Sea, in order to support economic cooperation and energy export routes.

The Iraqi ministry said the meeting took place on the sidelines of the Arab ministerial meeting on Jerusalem in Amman.

Wider bilateral cooperation

The two sides discussed:

– Strengthening bilateral ties

– Egyptian companies operating in Iraq

– Cooperation in the electricity sector

– The importance of the pipeline project for oil export routes

Iraq-Jordan talks on electricity links and the Aqaba pipeline

Fuad Hussein also met Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi to discuss the oil pipeline to Aqaba and mechanisms for supplying Iraq with electricity through the Jordanian grid.

Both sides emphasized the importance of further developing bilateral relations, including preparations for an upcoming visit by Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources to Baghdad.

Additional issues on the agenda

The talks also covered:

– Developments inside Iraq

– The Iraqi government’s policy of limiting weapons to state control

– Outcomes of Prime Minister Ali Al-Zeidi’s visit to Washington

– Continued Arab and regional coordination

Key takeaways

– Trilateral mechanism to be activated through technical committees

– Partnership to expand in energy, oil and electricity

– Aqaba pipeline project discussed

– Support for reopening the Strait of Hormuz

– Emphasis on de-escalation and diplomacy

Conclusion

Iraq Jordan Egypt are moving toward turning political coordination into practical economic and energy projects, with the trilateral framework becoming a platform for broader cooperation and regional stability. As discussions continue on the Aqaba pipeline and electricity interconnection, the coming period is likely to bring further institutional coordination among the three countries.
