The Iraqi government continues to intensify its anti-corruption campaign through the recovery of stolen public assets abroad while reinforcing nationwide efforts to prosecute corrupt officials and strengthen institutional accountability.

Justice Ministry Recovers More Than $25 Million in Stolen Assets

Iraq’s Ministry of Justice announced that it has recovered more than $25 million in stolen Iraqi assets over the past two years through legal procedures carried out in coordination with the Federal Integrity Commission and in accordance with international agreements.

The ministry stated that legal efforts are continuing to recover additional funds, real estate, and bank accounts located in several countries by enforcing Iraqi court rulings through international legal channels.

International Recovery Efforts Continue

The recovery campaign includes:

  • Recovering illegally transferred public funds.
  • Enforcing Iraqi judicial rulings abroad.
  • Tracking overseas bank accounts and real estate.
  • Cooperating with international legal authorities to complete pending recovery cases.

Prime Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Fighting Corruption

During a visit to the Ministry of Interior, Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi stressed that combating corruption has become a public demand and remains one of the government’s top priorities.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Interior plays a central role in fighting corruption and instructed security agencies, the Federal Integrity Commission, and the Federal Board of Supreme Audit to continue pursuing corrupt individuals without exception.

Government Reinforces Anti-Corruption Measures

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to:

  • Pursuing corrupt officials.
  • Recovering public funds.
  • Strengthening oversight and accountability.
  • Enforcing the law without political or institutional exceptions.

Coordinated Efforts to Protect Public Resources

The two developments highlight Iraq’s broader strategy to combat corruption by combining judicial asset recovery with stronger law enforcement and oversight mechanisms aimed at safeguarding public resources and enhancing government transparency.

Conclusion

Iraq’s latest actions demonstrate a comprehensive approach to combating corruption through international asset recovery, stronger legal enforcement, and coordinated efforts among judicial, security, and oversight institutions. The government says these measures are intended to protect public funds, reinforce accountability, and respond to growing public demands for transparency.
