Iraq’s anti-corruption campaign is gaining momentum, backed by strong public and political support, as authorities continue implementing judicial measures targeting those accused of misusing public funds.

The campaign has sparked widespread calls for expanding its scope to include all individuals involved in corruption cases, regardless of position.

Political and Parliamentary Support

Political and parliamentary figures have voiced support for the campaign, describing it as a crucial step toward reform.

Shibl Al-Zaidi, head of the Services Alliance, said that fighting corruption is “as dangerous and important as combating terrorism,” noting that corruption weakens the state and hinders development.

MP Wafaa Al-Taie stressed that combating corruption and recovering public funds is a “national priority,” adding that “no corrupt individual enjoys immunity.”

Calls to Expand Investigations

MP Mohammed Jassim Al-Khafaji called for opening files related to ministries suspected of corruption, particularly contracts in the Interior and Defense sectors.

He emphasized the need for continued government action alongside judicial efforts to ensure accountability across all cases.

Experts: A Turning Point

Security and economic experts described the campaign as a significant shift in Iraq’s approach to tackling corruption.

Security analyst Fadel Abu Raghif said the campaign represents a deterrent measure and reflects the government’s determination to recover stolen funds.

Economic analyst Abdulrahman Al-Sheikhli noted that corruption “poses a major threat to development and state institutions,” adding that political consensus has enabled the current crackdown.

Strong Public Support

Observers reported strong public backing for the campaign, with widespread support on social media and among citizens.

Academic Alaa Mustafa described the campaign as one of the most widely supported government actions in recent years, noting that it has helped restore public confidence in state institutions.

Integrity Commission Takes Action

In a related development, Iraq’s Federal Integrity Commission announced it has begun implementing arrest warrants against individuals accused of misusing public funds.

The commission stated that these actions are the result of coordinated efforts between the judicial, executive, and legislative authorities.

Key Measures

– Execution of judicial arrest warrants

– Continuous monitoring and investigation

– Coordination among state institutions

– Public transparency in reporting actions

The commission emphasized that all procedures are conducted in accordance with the law.

Importance of Recovering Public Funds

Recovering misappropriated funds remains a central objective of the campaign, with direct implications for:

– Strengthening public finances

– Supporting development projects

– Enhancing public trust

Experts expect further investigations to reveal additional individuals involved in corruption networks.

Key Points

– Anti-corruption campaign gains strong support

– Political and parliamentary backing increases

– Calls to expand investigations across sectors

– Integrity Commission executes arrest warrants

– Focus on recovering public funds

– Public trust in government improving

Conclusion

Iraq’s anti-corruption campaign reflects a significant shift toward accountability and governance reform. With continued political support, judicial backing, and public endorsement, the campaign is expected to expand further, potentially exposing larger corruption networks and strengthening state institutions.
