Iraq’s Joint Operations Command announced on Sunday the successful execution of two airstrikes targeting an ISIS hideout in Anbar province, as part of ongoing operations to eliminate remaining militant cells.

In a separate development, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) confirmed the arrest of a terrorism suspect in Salahuddin province, highlighting continued security efforts across multiple regions.

Airstrikes Target ISIS Position in Desert

According to a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Joint Operations Command said the strikes were carried out at 02:00 and 02:20 local time, targeting an ISIS gathering site in remote desert areas of Anbar.

The operation was conducted based on field intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate and under the supervision of the Joint Operations targeting cell.

The statement described the strikes as “successful,” noting that the targeted site was located deep within desert terrain.

Ground Forces Deployed

Following the airstrikes, a joint force from the Iraqi Army’s Fifth Division, supported by additional units, was dispatched to inspect the targeted location.

This step aims to verify the results of the strikes and secure the area against any remaining threats.

Continued Operations Against ISIS Remnants

The Joint Operations Command reaffirmed that Iraqi security forces remain committed to pursuing what remains of ISIS fighters across the country.

It stated that operations will continue to “strike their hideouts and cleanse Iraqi land from terrorism,” emphasizing that security forces are determined to prevent any resurgence of the group.

PMF Arrests Suspect in Salahuddin

In a separate statement, the Popular Mobilization Forces announced the arrest of a suspected terrorist east of Salahuddin province.

The PMF said that a unit from the 22nd Brigade, under the North and East Tigris Operations Command, carried out the arrest based on precise intelligence information.

The suspect, identified by initials (A.R.R.), is wanted under Article 4 of Iraq’s anti-terrorism law. He has been handed over to the relevant authorities for legal procedures.

Ongoing Security Efforts

The two operations reflect continued Iraqi efforts to combat ISIS through a combination of:

– Targeted airstrikes in remote desert areas

– Intelligence-driven ground operations

– Arrests of suspected militants

These measures are part of a broader strategy aimed at maintaining stability and preventing ISIS from reorganizing.

Conclusion

The airstrikes in Anbar and the arrest in Salahuddin underscore Iraq’s ongoing campaign against ISIS remnants. Through coordinated intelligence and military action, Iraqi forces continue to pursue militant elements and reinforce national security across key regions.
