Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Saturday it will take firm action against vessels that do not follow designated routes in the Strait of Hormuz, amid tightened control over maritime traffic in the strategic waterway.

The warning comes as Tehran also announced upcoming talks with Oman on the future management of the Strait.

IRGC Issues Warning to Ships

In a statement, the IRGC said that some vessels have sought permits from Iran to transit the Strait after unauthorized ships were met with warning fire.

The statement added that Iranian navigation rules remain in effect and stressed that all vessels must comply with them.

Required Procedures for Transit

– Ships must coordinate with IRGC naval forces

– Prior communication is required before entering or exiting the Strait

– Vessels must follow designated maritime routes

The IRGC emphasized that it “will deal firmly with ships that do not adhere to the routes specified by Iran.”

Tehran Plans Talks with Oman

Separately, the Iranian government confirmed its intention to continue managing the Strait of Hormuz and engage in dialogue with neighboring countries.

In a statement reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Tehran said it would hold discussions with Oman to establish a framework for managing maritime services in the Strait in the future.

Strategic Importance of the Strait

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, through which a significant portion of global oil and gas supplies pass.

Any restrictions or changes in navigation procedures can directly impact:

– Global energy markets

– Shipping routes

– Regional security in the Gulf

– International trade flows

Rising Tensions in the Gulf

Iran’s latest measures suggest increased oversight of maritime activity in the Strait, at a time of heightened regional tensions.

The developments come amid ongoing debates over freedom of navigation and the balance between national sovereignty and international maritime law.

Key Points

– IRGC warns ships against deviating from assigned routes

– Warning shots reportedly fired at unauthorized vessels

– Mandatory coordination with Iranian naval forces

– Iran plans talks with Oman on future Strait management

– Strait of Hormuz remains critical for global energy trade

Conclusion

Iran’s warning to vessels and plans for coordinated management with Oman indicate a shift toward tighter control of maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. As regional tensions persist, the waterway remains a focal point for both security concerns and global economic stability.
