European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday the conclusion of a significant trade agreement between India and the European Union, which she stated has created a “free trade zone of two billion people.”
The announcement was made in New Delhi following a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Europe and India are making history today,” von der Leyen said in a statement. “We have concluded the mother of all deals.”
After two decades of negotiations, the agreement is expected to provide mutual economic benefits for both parties.
