Iraqi President Nizar Amidi said on Tuesday that expanding cooperation and opening new avenues for partnership with the United States is important, during a meeting with US chargé d’affaires Joshua Harris.

According to a presidential statement, the meeting also covered regional and international developments, as well as bilateral ties between Iraq and the United States.

Call for broader partnership with the US

The president said widening areas of cooperation would help support Iraq’s stability, strengthen its capabilities and contribute to peace in the region.

He also stressed the need to reduce escalation through dialogue, while the US diplomat said Washington remained committed to further developing ties with Iraq across different fields.

Prime minister seeks more South Korean investment

In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaydi said the government is keen to attract more South Korean investment to Iraq and to benefit from the expertise of South Korean companies operating across the country.

The prime minister’s media office said al-Zaydi received South Korean Ambassador Lee Joon-il, who delivered a written message from South Korean President Lee Jae-myung congratulating him on the formation of the government and reaffirming support for stronger bilateral ties.

Focus on investment, energy and technology

Al-Zaydi said Iraq wants to broaden cooperation with South Korea in investment, energy and technology, and wants to benefit from the experience of South Korean companies already active in the country.

He said Iraq is especially interested in sectors where South Korea has strong expertise and where Iraqi market needs are growing.

Cars and electronics among priorities

The prime minister said the government wants to attract more South Korean investment, particularly in industries such as car manufacturing and electronics.

He added that the government is offering incentives and reforms to improve the investment environment and support broader economic development.

Broader diplomatic and economic context

The meetings with US and South Korean officials reflect Baghdad’s continued push to deepen external ties on both the political and economic fronts, while seeking investment and partnerships that can support development in Iraq.

They also highlight the government’s effort to expand international cooperation in sectors linked to infrastructure, energy and technology.

Conclusion:

The meetings with US and South Korean representatives show Iraq’s focus on expanding cooperation and building new partnerships that support stability, investment and development. They also signal Baghdad’s intent to strengthen bilateral relations and attract foreign expertise in strategic sectors.
