11 Killed in Algeria Child Care Home Fire as President Tebboune Offers Condolences

A deadly fire at a child care institution near Algiers has claimed the lives of at least 11 people and injured 19 others, prompting a nationwide response as President Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

Fire Leaves 11 Dead and 19 Injured

Algerian authorities said the fire broke out early Thursday at a child care institution near the capital, resulting in an initial death toll of 11 people and injuries to 19 others.

Civil Protection teams transported the injured to nearby hospitals, including several suffering from burns of varying severity and others affected by smoke inhalation. Rescue crews also evacuated five people with disabilities to safety while firefighting and search operations continued.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and confirm the final casualty figures.

President Tebboune Expresses Condolences

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who is currently on an official visit to Germany, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy after being informed of the incident.

In a statement carried by the Algerian News Agency, the president extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a swift recovery.

Investigation Underway

Emergency teams remain at the scene as authorities continue rescue operations and examine the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Officials are expected to release further details once investigations into the cause of the incident are completed.
