Russia's top diplomat in Poland summoned over drones

The traffic sign reading "Republic of Poland - State Border" and Polish and European flags are seen as Polish border guards check cars at the Polish-German border in Slubice, western Poland, close to the German city of Frankfurt an der Oder, on July 7, 2025, as Poland temporarily reintroduced border controls with Germany and Lithuania, saying they are needed to control "illegal immigration". In total, 52 checkpoints have been set up on the border with Germany and 13 with Lithuania, the Polish interior minister said. The controls will last from 7 July to 5 August 2025 but could be extended. They will mostly consist of spot inspections, particularly of vehicles carrying several people, Polish officials said. Poland on Wednesday summoned Russia’s top diplomat in the country, Russian state media reported, after Warsaw said it had downed several Russian drones that violated its airspace overnight.

Andrei Ordash, Russia’s temporary charge d’affaires in Poland, told RIA Novosti he had been summoned to the foreign ministry for a meeting at 12:00 pm (1000 GMT), adding that Warsaw was yet to present evidence that the drones shot down overnight had come from Russia.
