China continues to accelerate its technological transformation through strong growth in its software and information technology sector while launching the country’s first school dedicated to training intelligent robots for real-world applications, highlighting its broader strategy to strengthen innovation and the digital economy.

Software and IT Industry Maintains Strong Growth

Official data released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed that software and information technology services generated 6.25 trillion yuan (approximately $917 billion) in revenue during the first five months of 2026, representing a 10.3% year-on-year increase.

Industry profits reached 717.3 billion yuan, while exports rose 12.8% to $27.65 billion, reflecting continued international demand for Chinese technology services.

Cloud Computing and Digital Services Lead Expansion

Information technology services accounted for nearly 68.5% of total industry revenue, supported by strong growth in:

  • Cloud computing services
  • Big data solutions
  • Integrated circuit design
  • Digital technology services

These sectors continue to drive China’s expanding digital economy.

China Opens Its First School for Robots

Alongside its growing technology sector, China inaugurated its first school dedicated to educating robots in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

The institution is designed to prepare robots for practical employment through assessment, customized training, professional certification, and skill evaluation before deployment across industrial and service sectors.

Training Intelligent Decision-Making

Rather than focusing solely on movement capabilities, the program aims to improve robots’ cognitive abilities, including:

  • Environmental perception
  • Independent decision-making
  • Adaptation to changing conditions
  • Task execution in complex real-world environments

Students (robots) undergo admission testing, specialized training programs, and professional certification before graduating.

Technology Strategy Beyond Manufacturing

The two developments illustrate China’s broader technology strategy, combining sustained investment in software and digital services with advances in artificial intelligence and robotics.

By strengthening both digital infrastructure and intelligent automation, Beijing seeks to accelerate innovation, expand high-tech industries, and support long-term economic growth.

Conclusion

China’s latest technology initiatives demonstrate parallel progress in software development and artificial intelligence. While the IT industry continues to post solid financial growth, the launch of the country’s first robot school reflects increasing efforts to bridge advanced research with practical industrial and commercial applications.
