US President Donald Trump stated that a naval blockade played a key role in bringing Iran back to negotiations, warning that a prolonged conflict could have led to a global economic recession.

His remarks came in an interview with Axios, as the White House reaffirmed that the new agreement with Tehran ensures Iran will not obtain a nuclear weapon.

Blockade and Economic Concerns

Trump said extending the war could have caused severe economic consequences worldwide, including a potential global recession.

He described the naval blockade as a decisive factor that pressured Iran into negotiations.

According to Trump, the United States negotiated “from a position of strength,” claiming that Iran’s navy and air force were effectively neutralized.

Remarks on Iran’s Leadership

Trump also addressed developments inside Iran, saying the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was seriously injured during recent events but showed courage.

He suggested that the situation in Iran represented a form of regime change, adding that the younger Khamenei differs from his predecessor.

However, Trump confirmed that he has not spoken directly with Iran’s new leader.

Criticism of the 2015 Nuclear Deal

Trump described the newly signed memorandum of understanding as potentially an “unconditional Iranian surrender,” while renewing criticism of the 2015 nuclear agreement, calling it a “disaster.”

He argued that the current arrangement is fundamentally different and prevents Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

White House: No Nuclear Weapon for Iran

In a separate statement, the White House emphasized that the agreement guarantees Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon.

The statement said the deal aligns with the “America First” principle and rejects what it described as failed appeasement policies, financial concessions, and endless wars.

Officials added that prolonged military engagements have weakened the United States over decades.

Strategic Implications

Trump’s comments reflect broader geopolitical calculations, linking:

– The Iran agreement to global economic stability

– Military pressure to diplomatic outcomes

– Nuclear non-proliferation to domestic political priorities

The long-term impact of the agreement will depend on implementation, verification measures, and regional developments.

Conclusion:

Trump asserted that the naval blockade forced Iran to negotiate, framing the new agreement as a decisive shift in US policy.

With the White House insisting the deal prevents nuclear proliferation, attention now turns to how effectively the terms will be enforced and whether regional tensions will continue to ease.
