Zelensky says 'continues to respect' Trump's desire to end war

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky attends a joint press conference with Turkey's President following their meeting at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on November 19, 2025. Zelensky said he wants to reinvigorate frozen peace talks, which have faltered after several rounds of Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul this year failed to yield a breakthrough. Moscow has not agreed to a ceasefire and instead kept advancing on the front and bombarding Ukrainian cities.

Volodymyr Zelensky told US Vice President JD Vance that he respects Donald Trump’s efforts to end the war, the Ukrainian president said after pushing back on Washington’s Moscow-friendly plan to stop the fighting.

“Ukraine has always respected and continues to respect US President Donald Trump’s desire to put an end to the bloodshed,” Zelensky said on social media following a phone call with Vance and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll that he said lasted “almost an hour.”
