Venezuelan leader Delcy Rodriguez held her first known telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump since the ousting of Nicolas Maduro, describing the interaction as “productive and courteous.”

In a post on the social media platform Telegram, Rodriguez stated, “I had a long, productive, and courteous telephone conversation with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, conducted in a framework of mutual respect.”

Following the call, President Trump was also quoted as offering a positive assessment, reportedly describing Rodriguez as “terrific.” This communication marks the first publicly acknowledged high-level contact between the leaders of the two countries following the recent political changes in Venezuela.
