Venezuelan Acting President Says She Approaches US Talks 'Without Fear'

This combination of pictures created on January 21, 2026 shows Venezuela's vice-President Delcy Rodriguez attends a session of the National Assembly to swear in as Venezuela's interim President in Caracas on January 5, 2026, and US President Donald Trump looks on as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine (out of frame) speaks to the press following US military actions in Venezuela, at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, on January 3, 2026. Venezuela US talks are being approached “without fear” by Delcy Rodriguez, who is acting as Venezuela’s president, she announced on Wednesday. Her statement follows confirmation from a senior US official that a visit to Washington is planned.

Rodriguez has been the acting leader since the US military-led removal of Nicolas Maduro.

“We are in a process of dialogue, of working with the United States, without any fear, to confront our differences and difficulties… and to address them through diplomacy,” Rodriguez stated.
