A US envoy has described an agreement and truce between the Syrian government and Kurdish leadership as a “pivotal inflection point.” The deal was announced Sunday following an advance by government forces into Kurdish-held territories in northern and eastern Syria.

US envoy Tom Barrack commented on the agreement between Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Kurdish leader Mazloum Abdi. “This agreement and ceasefire represent a pivotal inflection point, where former adversaries embrace partnership over division,” Barrack stated on the social media platform X.

The statement followed a series of meetings, with the envoy meeting President al-Sharaa in Damascus on Sunday and Mazloum Abdi in Erbil, Iraq, the previous day.
