Ukraine strikes Russia have intensified after President Volodymyr Zelensky announced operations targeting key oil and industrial facilities inside Russian territory. The statement comes as Moscow reported intercepting a large number of Ukrainian drones within a short timeframe.

Zelensky: strikes hit refinery and industrial complex

Zelensky said Ukrainian forces targeted the Ufa oil refinery, one of Russia’s largest refining facilities, as well as an industrial complex in Penza known for producing missile components.

The announcement reflects a continued expansion of Ukrainian operations beyond frontline areas into strategic infrastructure inside Russia.

Expansion of cross-border operations

The strikes indicate a broader operational scope, with Ukraine increasingly targeting facilities linked to energy and military production.

Russia reports interception of 133 drones

Russia’s Ministry of Defense stated that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 133 Ukrainian drones within a 12-hour period, from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Moscow time.

The ministry said the drones were shot down across 14 regions, including areas near and around Moscow.

Wide geographic spread of drone activity

The interceptions were reported over multiple regions, including:

Belgorod, Bryansk, and Kursk
Rostov, Smolensk, and Tula
Moscow and surrounding areas
Stavropol and Krasnodar regions
Bashkortostan and Kalmykia republics

Moscow rejects “pressure” and signals openness to talks

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said attempts to pressure or threaten Russia are “completely unacceptable.”

She added that Moscow remains open to negotiations with parties that demonstrate a constructive and responsible approach toward achieving a lasting settlement.

Conditions for negotiations

Consideration of what Russia describes as realities on the ground
Building on previous negotiation rounds
Seeking a “fair and sustainable” resolution

Zakharova also reiterated that any final settlement must address what Russia calls the “root causes” of the conflict.

Ongoing escalation in the conflict

The latest developments highlight continued escalation between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides engaging in drone warfare and targeting strategic infrastructure.

Key developments
