Former U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted that global security depends on the United States having “Complete and Total Control of Greenland,” the autonomous territory of Denmark.
The statement was delivered in a message to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and was made public on Monday.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the authenticity of the message, in which Trump stated, “The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland,” was confirmed by the Norwegian prime minister’s office. This comment revives attention on Trump’s previously stated interest in the strategic Arctic territory.
Donald Trump’s statement regarding U.S. control over Greenland has once again highlighted the strategic importance of the Arctic. In a confirmed message to the Prime Minister of Norway, the former American president linked global security directly to U.S. authority over the Danish autonomous territory. This position is consistent with his previous interest, including a reported proposal during his presidency to purchase Greenland, which was dismissed by Danish officials.
The continued focus on Greenland by figures like Trump underscores its geopolitical significance. The island’s location is critical for military monitoring and potential trade routes, and it is believed to hold significant natural resources. Trump’s direct and transactional framing of the issue as a matter of security presents a clear foreign policy perspective that continues to fuel discussions on Arctic sovereignty and international relations.
