Former US President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he received the Nobel Peace Prize medal from Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. The meeting took place at the White House.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump praised Machado, who was the recipient of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. “She is a wonderful woman who has been through so much,” Trump stated.
He added that Machado presented him with “her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done,” calling it “such a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.”
Machado confirmed to reporters that she presented her Nobel medal to Trump during their meeting. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has previously stated that while a physical medal can be transferred, the title of a Nobel laureate cannot be shared or given to another person. The gesture is seen by analysts as an effort by Machado to secure political favor with the US administration regarding the future of Venezuela.
