Baghdad – Iraqi News Agency (INA)
Iraq’s Ministry of Planning announced on Thursday that the Iraqi vehicle standards will be implemented starting early 2026. The new standards apply to all vehicles, regardless of type or country of origin.
Fayadh Mohammed Abdul, head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the implementation will begin with the activation of the endorsement clause on January 1, 2026. All importers, manufacturers, and producers have been notified, and relevant information is available on the official platform.
The standards, known as Technical Requirement No. 167, are designed to suit Iraqi climate and conditions, with a focus on energy efficiency and safety, ensuring that only safe vehicles enter the Iraqi market.
Abdul emphasized that the standards cover all vehicles and prohibit the import of used cars that have been severely damaged, including burned, flooded, or heavily damaged vehicles.
Starting January 1, 2026, all vehicles will undergo clear procedures, including inspections at official border points to verify compliance before they are allowed into the Iraqi market. The organization tracks all vehicle data, including type and entry points, to ensure adherence to the approved standards.
He added that the standards were developed in collaboration with multiple government departments to ensure accuracy. Importers must register vehicle details and entry points, and only vehicles meeting the Iraqi specifications will be released to the market.
