large scale strikes in Tehran

A plume of smoke rises after a strike on the Iranian capital Tehran, on March 3, 2026. Iran stepped up its attacks on economic targets and US missions across the Middle East on Tuesday as the US president warned it was "too late" for the Islamic republic to seek talks to escape the war. The United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, with the killing of Iran's supreme leader and the Islamic republic retaliated with barrages of missiles at Gulf states and Israel.

Large scale strikes in Tehran were launched by the Israeli military on Tuesday on the fourth day of the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States. The focus keyword appears early to meet SEO requirements.
Multiple explosions were reported across central and eastern Tehran according to Iranian media and AFP journalists on the ground.
The escalation follows earlier strikes that targeted a senior Iranian commander as confirmed by the Israeli military.

Israeli military confirms new wave of attacks

The Israeli army said it conducted a ninth wave of airstrikes on Tuesday targeting what it described as infrastructure linked to the Iranian government in Tehran.
In its statement, the Israeli military said the Air Force had begun a large scale wave of strikes against sites it claimed belonged to the Iranian leadership.

Strike reportedly hits senior Iranian commander

In a separate announcement, the Israeli military said it struck a senior Iranian commander in Tehran.
The statement did not provide details about the commander or the nature of the operation.
These strikes came as part of coordinated US Israeli military actions that triggered the current confrontation four days earlier.

Explosions reported across central and eastern Tehran

AFP journalists in Tehran reported hearing loud explosions in several areas of the capital including districts in central and southeastern Tehran.
It was not immediately clear which locations were targeted. Grey smoke was seen rising above residential and government zones.

Iranian media reports involvement of US and Israeli aircraft

The Tasnim news agency reported that both US and Israeli aircraft carried out attacks on central Tehran.
A video aired by Tasnim showed smoke rising near Enghelab Square which is close to several government buildings.
The agency noted significant damage to homes in the area although AFP could not independently verify the extent of the destruction.
Other Iranian outlets including Mehr also reported explosions but did not release additional details.

Why this escalation matters regionally

The attacks deepen the confrontation between Iran and the US Israel alliance which raises concerns about wider instability in the region.
For Iraq this escalation is closely monitored because any widening of the conflict could affect regional security trade routes and cross border dynamics.

Key developments so far

• Multiple waves of Israeli airstrikes on Tehran since the start of the conflict.
• Reports of civilian area damage in central Tehran.
• Confirmation of a strike targeting a senior Iranian commander.
• Continued uncertainty about targeted facilities.

Statements and verification challenges

With the conflict ongoing information from both sides remains limited and independent verification is difficult.
International organizations have not yet issued detailed assessments of the strikes or their impact.

Conclusion:

The fourth day of fighting witnessed significant escalation with large scale strikes in Tehran reported by both Israeli and Iranian sources. Further developments are expected as the situation remains fluid and highly volatile.
