A Chinese robot breaks world record in the 100 metres after clocking 9.39 seconds during the opening of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, surpassing the long-standing mark set by Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt.

Chinese media said the robot, from the X-Humanoid team, crossed the finish line in 9.39 seconds, beating Bolt’s 9.58-second record that had stood for years as the benchmark in men’s sprinting.

Tech and sport on the same stage

The record came during the opening of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, where humanoid robots competed in a range of events under heavy media attention.

Reports said another robot developed by Chinese smartphone maker Honor had already broken the same record earlier, clocking 9.32 seconds, highlighting how fast humanoid robotics is advancing in China.

Robots compete in multiple events

Dozens of face-less humanoid robots, alongside human operators, took part in the Beijing Olympic skating arena in events ranging from athletics and boxing to football and martial arts.

The competition drew attention to the growing sophistication of China’s robotics sector and its push to showcase technological progress in public.

Tiangong Ultra posts more records

The red, headless humanoid robot Tiangong Ultra finished the 100m sprint in 9.39 seconds, according to state broadcaster CCTV, again surpassing Bolt’s best time.

The robot also set a new mark on Sunday in the 400m race, cutting nearly five seconds off the previous record and finishing in 38.15 seconds.

Developed in Beijing research centre

Reports said the robot was developed at a research centre in Beijing as part of broader efforts to advance China’s capabilities in AI and humanoid robotics.

The achievements are part of a wider global race in advanced robotics, especially in areas that combine speed, movement and autonomy.

Conclusion:

The fact that a Chinese robot breaks world record in the 100m shows how far China has advanced in humanoid robotics. With new records also being set in other races, Beijing appears determined to strengthen its position in this fast-growing field.
