At least 13 dead, 98 wounded in Mexico train derailment: navy

Mexican Army soldiers and Civil Protection members rescue passengers from the Interoceanic train that derailed in Nizanda, Oaxaca state, on the route to Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, on December 28, 2025. At least 13 people died and close to a hundred others were injured Sunday when a train partially derailed in southern Oaxaca state, Mexican authorities said, updating an earlier toll.

“As a result of this accident, 139 people are out of danger, 98 were injured… and unfortunately, 13 people lost their lives,” the Mexican Navy, which operates the railway line, said in a statement.
