The United Nations, Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have strongly condemned the recent threats issued by the Houthi movement against Saudi Arabia and international shipping in the Red Sea, warning of the risks of further regional escalation while reaffirming support for the Kingdom and calling for immediate de-escalation.

United Nations Warns of Regional Escalation

The United Nations expressed deep concern over renewed Houthi threats targeting Saudi Arabia and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, describing the situation as a warning sign of broader regional escalation.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric urged all parties to immediately reduce tensions and resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy. He also stressed the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2722 and other relevant resolutions concerning attacks on commercial vessels, while emphasizing the need to protect civilians, critical infrastructure and preserve the political process in Yemen.

Bahrain Reaffirms Full Support for Saudi Arabia

Bahrain strongly condemned the Houthi statements, describing them as irresponsible escalation that threatens regional stability, international trade and maritime security.

The Bahraini Foreign Ministry reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia’s security is an integral part of Bahrain’s security, expressing full support for all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty and stability. It also called for stronger international efforts to protect navigation through the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab and other strategic waterways.

GCC Rejects Houthi Allegations and Calls for Firm International Action

GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi also rejected the Houthi allegations against Saudi Arabia, describing them as baseless accusations aimed at distorting facts and evading responsibility.

He emphasized Saudi Arabia’s continued efforts to support Yemen through political, humanitarian and development initiatives, while stressing that freedom of navigation and secure maritime trade remain fundamental pillars of regional and global stability.

Albudaiwi urged the international community to take a firm stance against threats targeting international shipping lanes and to ensure the implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Unified Calls to Protect Regional Stability

The coordinated statements from the United Nations, Bahrain and the GCC reflect a shared position emphasizing the importance of preventing further escalation, safeguarding international maritime routes and supporting diplomatic efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

Conclusion:

The United Nations, Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council have collectively condemned Houthi threats against Saudi Arabia and maritime navigation, underscoring the need for immediate de-escalation, protection of international shipping routes and continued support for diplomatic efforts aimed at preserving regional security and stability.
