The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Wednesday that it did not launch any missile at the passenger terminal of Kuwait International Airport, rejecting accusations that it was responsible for the reported damage.

In a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency, the IRGC said its internal investigations confirmed that its forces did not fire any missile at the airport’s passenger hall.

IRGC Blames Patriot Systems for Damage

According to the IRGC statement, the destruction of the terminal building at Kuwait Airport was the result of what it described as a malfunction in US Patriot missile defense systems.

The statement emphasized that Iranian forces did not target civilian airport facilities, amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region following recent missile exchanges.

The remarks come after reports of damage to parts of Kuwait International Airport during regional hostilities involving Iran and the United States.

Araghchi: Defensive Strikes and Firm Response

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the country’s armed forces are carrying out what he described as defensive strikes.

In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi stated that Iranian forces are targeting sites that the United States is allegedly allowed to use to attack civilian vessels and violate ceasefire arrangements.

He added that any hostile action would be met with an immediate and decisive response, saying that what sanctions and war failed to achieve would not be accomplished through further escalation.

Khatam al-Anbiya: Armed Forces Will Defend Sovereignty

Separately, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, the central command of the country’s armed forces, said the military would defend the nation’s sovereignty and principles “until the last breath.”

In a statement, the headquarters said it would not allow what it described as enemies to carry out their plans or undermine the sacrifices of those it referred to as martyrs.

The statement also asserted that Iran’s people would continue to support what it called resistance and the defense of national rights.

Rising Regional Tensions

The statements from Tehran come amid an escalation in the Gulf, with mutual accusations over missile strikes and the targeting of civilian and military facilities.

Key developments include:

– IRGC denial of targeting Kuwait Airport’s passenger terminal.

– Claims that Patriot defense systems were responsible for the damage.

– Iranian officials describing ongoing operations as defensive.

– Vows of a decisive response to any hostile action.

The situation remains tense as regional and international actors call for restraint and efforts to prevent further escalation.

Conclusion:

The IRGC denies targeting Kuwait Airport, while Iranian officials maintain that current operations are defensive and aimed at protecting national sovereignty. As rhetoric intensifies and military exchanges continue, the prospect of de-escalation will depend on diplomatic efforts and developments on the ground.
