India’s foreign ministry has issued an advisory urging its citizens to depart from Iran, citing the ongoing crackdown on mass protests that rights groups report has resulted in thousands of people being killed and arrested.
The advisory targets an estimated 10,000 Indian nationals currently residing in Iran, including students, pilgrims, business professionals, and tourists.
In a social media post published late Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Tehran stated, “Indian nationals who are currently in Iran… are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport.”
