Lebanon PM publishes long-awaited banking law draft

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam published on December 19 a long-awaited banking draft bill, which would distribute losses from the 2019 financial crisis between banks and the state. In a televised speech, Salam said "this draft law constitutes a roadmap to getting out of the crisis" that still grips Lebanon. The bill is one of the reforms demanded by the international community before Beirut can receive financial support.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam published on Friday a long-awaited banking draft bill, which would distribute losses from the 2019 financial crisis between banks and the state.

In a televised speech, Salam said “this draft law constitutes a roadmap to getting out of the crisis” that still grips Lebanon.

The bill is one of the reforms demanded by the international community before Beirut can receive financial support.
