The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources announced ongoing government coordination aimed at managing the utilization of drinking water and preventing waste, according to ministry spokesperson Khaled Shamal.

Shamal told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the ministry’s primary responsibility is to supply raw water to treatment plants, noting that drinking water remains fully secured. He added that the ministry prepares an annual plan to ensure water availability and has notified Baghdad authorities and provincial water directorates to take precautionary measures in response to lower water levels caused by reduced inflows.

These measures include extending the lifespan of pipelines and replacing certain pumps and submersible units used for water extraction. Shamal emphasized that coordination with the relevant institutions is ongoing to meet technical requirements and minimize water loss.
