Hamas on Monday hailed the release of nearly 2,000 prisoners and detainees from Israeli jails as a “national milestone” in the Palestinian struggle.
“Hamas congratulates our freed prisoners, their steadfast families, and the masses of our proud Palestinian people on their liberation from the occupation’s prisons — an achievement that marks a bright national milestone in our ongoing struggle for freedom and liberation,” the Palestinian militant group said in a statement.
Israel on Monday released 1,968 prisoners, mostly Palestinians, under a Gaza ceasefire agreement brokered by US President Donald Trump.
