Zelensky says Russia has foothold in east Ukraine stronghold of Pokrovsk

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky speaks to Britain's Prime Minister during their meeting inside 10 Downing Street in central London on October 24, 2025, ahead of a Coalition of the Willing meeting. British premier Keir Starmer will urge allies to "step up the gifting of long-range capabilities to ensure Ukraine can build on its success", his office said in a statement ahead of the so-called "coalition of the willing" meeting.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has conceded that Russian forces have gained a foothold in the eastern Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, which Moscow has been trying to capture for over a year.

“Around 200 Russians are located there in various places — we see this from drones. Pokrovsk is currently the main target for the Russians,” Zelensky told reporters, including from AFP, in comments released Tuesday.
