Russian strikes are increasingly targeting Ukraine’s railway infrastructure, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who on Monday ordered a military response to the escalating attacks on the country’s logistical routes. The announcement comes as a separate Russian attack in the eastern Donetsk region killed a father and his son.

In a social media post, Zelensky stated, “The Russian army remains focused on terror against our logistics — primarily railway infrastructure.” He specified recent strikes on railway facilities in the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions. This follows a deadly attack last week on a railway car in the Kharkiv region that left five people dead.

The state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, has declared several routes in eastern Ukraine as “high risk,” advising passengers to use buses instead. In the Sumy region, some train services will now monitor for drone threats and halt operations near bomb shelters if necessary.

In a separate incident in the early hours of Monday, a Russian airstrike hit the town of Oleksievo-Druzhkivka, located approximately 15 kilometers from the front line in the Donetsk region.

The strike killed a 44-year-old man and his 23-year-old son. Police confirmed that the man’s 42-year-old wife and two other children were wounded. According to police reports, the family had previously evacuated the region last November but chose to return a month later.

Regional Governor Vadym Filashkin expressed condolences and frustration, stating, “I am also outraged, because the parents consciously made the decision to leave a region far from the front and bring their children back under enemy bombs.”

The attacks occur as the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale offensive on February 24 approaches. Russian forces and their proxies have controlled parts of the Donetsk region since 2014.

Russian strikes continue to inflict damage across Ukraine, with recent attacks specifically targeting the country’s critical railway infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelensky has highlighted these attacks as a form of “terror against our logistics” and has ordered a military response. The strikes have impacted facilities in the Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions, prompting the state railway operator to issue warnings and alter services for passenger safety.

These systematic attacks on infrastructure are accompanied by direct attacks on civilian areas. In the Donetsk region, a Russian airstrike killed a father and his son after the family had returned to their frontline hometown. The incident underscores the persistent danger faced by civilians in eastern Ukraine, even those who attempt to return home after fleeing the conflict. Local authorities continue to urge residents to evacuate from high-risk areas.

According to multiple media sources.
