Oman has witnessed new security developments after several sites in Musandam Governorate were targeted by drones, prompting Muscat to take diplomatic action by submitting an official protest to the Iranian ambassador. The developments come alongside continued efforts to maintain maritime security following a commercial vessel incident off the coast of the governorate.

Drone Attacks Target Sites in Oman’s Musandam Governorate

Oman announced that several locations in Musandam Governorate, in the north of the country, were targeted by unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Omani authorities condemned the incident and stressed that all necessary measures were being taken to respond to the developments and ensure the safety of the country, residents, and citizens.

]Muscat Submits Official Protest to Iranian Ambassador

Following the incident, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Iranian Ambassador to Muscat Mousa Farhang and handed him an official protest note over the targeting of sites in Musandam and Al Wusta Governorates.

The Omani side expressed its dissatisfaction with what it described as irresponsible actions, calling for respect for state sovereignty, good-neighbourly relations, non-interference in internal affairs, and adherence to international norms.

Oman Calls for Respect of Regional Stability

Oman emphasized the importance of respecting international laws and principles governing relations between states, warning against actions that could increase tensions and affect regional stability.

Maritime Incident Near Musandam Highlights Security Concerns

Meanwhile, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre announced that authorities rescued 23 crew members from a Cyprus-flagged commercial vessel after it suffered an incident approximately 4.4 nautical miles off the coast of Musandam.

The centre said specialized teams responded to the vessel’s distress call, while search operations continued for one missing crew member.

The latest developments highlight the strategic importance of Musandam, which overlooks vital maritime routes near the Strait of Hormuz.

The governorate’s security is closely linked to regional navigation, international trade flows, and energy transportation, making any security incident in the area a matter of regional concern.

Conclusion:

Oman is facing a series of security developments in Musandam, including drone attacks, diplomatic measures, and maritime rescue operations. Muscat continues to emphasize its commitment to protecting national sovereignty, maintaining security, and ensuring the safety of maritime navigation.
