Nigerian security forces have intensified operations against armed groups across the country, with the military announcing the killing of more than 300 militants in the northwestern state of Zamfara, while security forces successfully rescued dozens of students kidnapped in Oyo State in the southwest.

Nigerian Army Kills More Than 300 Militants in Zamfara Operation

Nigerian authorities announced that the army carried out a major security operation in the Gummi area of Zamfara State, resulting in the killing of more than 300 armed militants during a two-day operation.

Officials said the targeted groups were among criminal gangs operating in northern and central Nigeria, where they have been accused of attacking communities, imposing illegal payments on farmers, and carrying out kidnappings for ransom.

The operation is part of broader efforts by Nigerian security forces to confront armed groups threatening stability in several parts of the country.

Security Forces Rescue Kidnapped Students in Oyo State

In a separate security development, Nigerian authorities announced the successful rescue of dozens of students and teachers who were kidnapped during an attack on three schools in Oyo State in the southwestern part of the country.

President Bola Tinubu praised the joint operation carried out by the military, police, and intelligence units, saying the mission led to the rescue of the hostages, while several kidnappers were neutralized and others arrested.

The victims had been abducted in May when armed men, accused by the military of links to Boko Haram, kidnapped 46 students and school employees from three schools in Oyo State.

Nigeria Faces Continued Threats From Armed Groups

Nigeria continues to face serious security challenges due to the activities of armed gangs and extremist groups operating in different regions.

The threats include attacks on civilians, kidnappings for ransom, and activities linked to extremist organizations active in the wider Sahel region.

Military and Security Operations to Restore Stability

Nigerian authorities said the latest operations are part of a wider strategy aimed at restoring security, protecting civilians, and pursuing armed groups responsible for violence and criminal activities.

Nigeria has also carried out joint operations with international partners against militants linked to Islamic State groups in the Sahel region as part of broader counterterrorism efforts in West Africa.

Conclusion:

The latest developments highlight Nigeria’s continued security campaign against armed groups, combining military operations against militants with rescue missions to free kidnapped civilians as authorities seek to reduce violence and improve stability across the country.
