raq on Thursday reaffirmed its firm rejection of its territory being used as a launchpad for military actions against any country. The statement comes amid rising regional tensions, including U.S. threats of intervention in Iran following recent protests and a subsequent crackdown by Iranian authorities.

Sabah al-Numan, spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, issued a formal statement addressing the situation.

“In light of the rapidly unfolding regional developments and the accompanying escalation and threats affecting the security and stability of the region, the Republic of Iraq affirms its firm and principled position rejecting the use of its land, airspace, or territorial waters as a launchpad for any military actions targeting any country whatsoever,” the statement read.

The spokesman also called on all involved parties “to exercise restraint, prioritize the language of dialogue, avoid escalation, and work seriously to resolve disputes through peaceful and diplomatic means.”
