Iraq’s Ministry of Health announced on Friday the latest casualty figures resulting from the recent wave of heavy rainfall and flooding, confirming six deaths and two injuries recorded between December 9 and 11. A source from the Ministry’s Directorate of Operations and Emergency Medical Services told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the fatalities and injuries were reported across several provinces. Kirkuk registered two deaths and one injury, while Dhi Qar recorded two additional fatalities. One injury was also documented in each of Wasit, Diwaniyah, and Najaf. The source added that Civil Defense teams successfully rescued 30 staff members from a primary healthcare center in the Daquq health sector in Kirkuk after floods surrounded the facility. According to the official, the incidents resulted from various causes, including drowning, electrical shocks, and the collapse of houses due to severe storm conditions accompanying the recent weather changes.
