Ghana accepting west Africans deported from US: Ghana president

This video grab taken from an AFPTV video on September 6, 2025 shows Mexican National Jesus Munoz-Gutierrez (C) as he waves while boarding a flight at the Juba International Airport in Juba. South Sudan on Saturday announced the "successful repatriation" of a Mexican citizen, one of eight men deported there from the United States under President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown. The foreign ministry said Mexico had accepted the return of Jesus Munoz-Gutierrez, deported there July 5 after a long-running legal battle. Trump has made a priority of deporting migrants, including through arrangements to send people to often unstable and impoverished third countries. The ministry statement said Munoz-Gutierrez had been repatriated after being transferred to the custody of Mexican ambassador Alejandro Estivill Castro in a "smooth and orderly" process. Ghana is accepting west Africans deported from the United States, Ghanian President John Mahama said Wednesday.

“We were approached by the US to accept third-party nationals who were being removed from the US. And we agreed with them that west African nationals were acceptable,” Mahama told reporters.

He added that a “first batch” of 14 had already arrived, including “several” Nigerians and one Gambian.
