Barcelona secured the Spanish Super Cup title on Sunday, defeating Real Madrid 3-2 in a competitive final held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Brazilian forward Raphinha was central to the victory, scoring two goals. His performance marks a continuation of strong form, with seven goals recorded in his last five matches following his return from a two-month injury absence.
Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, praised the forward’s significant impact on the match and the team. “His mentality is unbelievable, his dynamic affects the whole team,” Flick stated to reporters.
During the match, Raphinha scored the opening goal for Barcelona. With the score later tied at 2-2, the 29-year-old scored the winning goal from outside the area.
“He missed the first chance but the second one, he was there and (scored) the first goal, and it gave the team more confidence,” Flick commented. “This is what Raphinha brings on the pitch, it’s a lot of intensity and we need this.”
Flick expressed that he hopes the victory, which is the team’s 10th consecutive win across all competitions, will provide momentum for the remainder of the season.
The match also featured the return of defender Ronald Araujo, who entered the game in its final stages after a month-long break from playing. “To be on the pitch and to win this title means a lot for him,” said Flick. “I’m really happy that he’s back.”
