The Egyptian government on Tuesday welcomed the United States’ decision to designate branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organizations, describing the move as a “pivotal step” against extremism.
In an official statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said the decision “reflects the danger of this group and its extremist ideology and the direct threat it poses to regional and international security and stability.”
The ministry added that the U.S. designation aligns with Egypt’s “longstanding position” and its own classification of the group as a terrorist organization, which it states is “based on violence, extremism and incitement.”
