Egypt denies deal with Israel to allow some Gaza residents to exit

A truck loaded with humanitarian aid waits to cross from the Egyptian side of Rafah en rounte to the Kerem Shalom crossing into the Gaza Strip on October 20, 2025. The reopening of the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, part of US President Donald Trump's plan for the Palestinian territory, remains on hold despite calls from the UN and aid groups.

Egypt denied on Wednesday that it had agreed with Israel the opening of the Rafah crossing to Gaza for residents of the Palestinian territory to exit, insisting it be opened in both directions.

“If an agreement is reached to open the crossing, it will be in both directions, to enter and exit the Gaza Strip, in accordance with the plan of US President Donald Trump,” the state information service said in a statement, quoting an official Egyptian source.
