Dhi Qar – INA
The local government of Dhi Qar inaugurated the Al-Nabi Ibrahim Bridge in central Nasiriyah on Thursday, completing the project in just 11 months as part of its strategic plan to reduce traffic congestion in the city.
Governor Murtadha Al-Ibrahimi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the bridge represents a vital achievement, noting that the project had been stalled since 2021. He explained that after assuming office, a task force was formed to follow up on all delayed projects, whether ministerial or related to the Marshes Revival Program, the Reconstruction Fund, or the Regional Development Plan.
Al-Ibrahimi added that despite overlapping works with other infrastructure projects, particularly the second phase of Al-Sadrain Road, the bridge was completed without closing any major streets, ensuring smooth traffic flow in the city center.
Deputy Governor for Technical Affairs Hassan Daddoush noted that the project was an unprecedented experience in constructing bridges within such a crowded urban setting, as the work was carried out without disrupting key roads. He highlighted that the new bridge directly links Ibrahim Al-Khalil Street with Al-Sadrain Street, alleviating pressure on commuters.
Meanwhile, Nasiriyah Municipality Director Qahtan Adnan stressed that the bridge is one of the most significant projects under the 2021 Regional Development Plan, as it helps ease congestion and reduce accidents at one of the busiest intersections in the city. He praised the cooperation between local departments and the resident engineer’s office in overcoming challenges that previously delayed the project.
