La Liga champions Barcelona announced on Friday that they have reached an agreement with midfielder Fermin Lopez to extend his contract for an additional two years, keeping him with the club until June 30, 2031. This move is part of the Catalan club’s strategy to retain its key young talent.
In an official statement, the club confirmed that Lopez, a 22-year-old graduate of the renowned “La Masia” academy, has agreed to an “extension and improvement of his contract for two additional seasons.” The new contract is expected to be formally signed in the coming days.
Since making his first-team debut in the 2023-2024 season, the attacking midfielder has established himself as a fundamental part of the Barcelona squad. He has made 113 appearances across all competitions, scoring 29 goals. Lopez was also a pivotal member of the Spanish national team that won the Euro 2024 championship.
With this renewal, Lopez joins a list of prominent players who have extended their contracts over the past year, including Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Gavi, Pedri, and Pau Cubarsi.
Lopez is now preparing to help his team, under the management of Hansi Flick, to consolidate their position at the top of the La Liga table as they face Elche on Saturday.
